It’s hot. People are scattered here and there, on vacation and working from home. Customers are more or less assiduous. This is EXACTLY why you want to prepare a good team-building activity for your teams.
Indeed, it’s summer. Already, there’s less traffic, which makes it easier to get around and find parking in most cases. Employees are sporadically present, team cohesion wanes, the vision of deliverables diminishes in cadence, and the glue that is our objectives softens like an ice cream cone in the sun.
So, now’s the time to get together, give the troops a boost and motivate them. Let’s explore some low- and high-budget possibilities.
Are you in a thrifty mode, but still want to have a good time? Dust off the potluck and give it an unusual twist. If you’ve got a freezer at work, organize a popsicle workshop so everyone can make some with their own ideas and personal taste to enjoy the next day (wow, two days at the office!). Take the opportunity to play “if”: “If I could set up anything for the start of the new school year, it would be…”.
You’ve got a little more time, but not a lot of budget? Organize a summer “discover your work area” and once a week, go visit a spot around the office. Is there a park? Plan a picnic. Is there a museum? Visit it. Is there a new business in the neighbourhood? Check it out (plus, it encourages local businesses!). An employee is good with words? Have them write a summer recap, that can be added to your new employee guide in the “What to do around here” section.
Do you have a few dollars left over from the social club or employee activities? In our surveys, food remains a collective attraction. Bring in a food truck at lunchtime. They are festive, less typical than the usual pizza. Hold a photo contest and use the material to refresh your LinkedIn and Indeed company page.
Avoid after-work activities. Everyone wants to enjoy their summer evenings and free time. The main goal of these activities is to get as many employees as possible together, in a pleasant atmosphere, through the usual schedule.
Summer’s just around the corner. Sharpen your pencils, your mind and get into spontaneous activity mode.
